International has been cruising Waterton Lake since 1927.  The US (south) end of the lake is tranquil and calm and offers picturesque views for the boat passengers.  Hikers can do a variety of hikes after clearing US Immigration and be picked up later for their return trip to the Canadian end. 16km from Waterton townsite up the scenic Akamina Parkway, Cameron Lake is a sub-alpine lake with hiking and canoeing in the area. It's easily accessible from a parking area. The spectacular view from the top of Sulphur Mountain leads the eye to Lake Minnewanka in the far distance, the Bow River down below anchored by the Banff Springs Hotel, and the townsite of Banff. Spray Valley Provincial Park shares its western border with Banff National Park.  It has spectacular scenery, and lots of hiking, camping and fishing opportunities for the outdoor recreationist. The coyote shaped head and completely natural turquoise colours of Peyto Lake - enhanced by a cloudy day - make it one of the most distinctive and spectacular scenes in the rockies.  The lake is named after William 'Wild Bill' Peyto, one of Banff National Park's first wardens. The winding twisty 14km road leading from the highway to the backside of Mt. Edith Cavell ends in a parking lot which, in early October, made the ride completely worthwhile with stunning freshly snowed upon trees and the turquoise water of a glacier lake glistening in the background. Spirit Island is one of the most photographed islands in the world and one of the photos many people immediately associate with the Canadian Rockies.  A glass-enclosed boat or manual labour canoeing up Maligne Lake is the only way to get there to appreciate its scenic beauty. Just south of the Columbia Icefields, clouds shift and sun peaks out enough to highlight the warm rich fall tones of the surrounding valleys.
